Tax

Section 80D

A tax deduction for health insurance premiums you pay for yourself and your family.

Section 80D lets you deduct health insurance premiums for yourself, spouse, kids, and parents.

The limit is ₹25,000 for your own family and an extra ₹25,000 (₹50,000 if senior citizens) for parents.

Like 80C, it is an old-regime benefit. It rewards you for something you should be doing anyway: staying insured.

For example

Pay ₹22,000 for your family's health cover and ₹40,000 for your senior parents, and you can claim ₹62,000 under 80D in the old regime.
